Explain why the encomienda system was eventually abolished.

The Spanish abolished the encomienda system in the mid 1500s because catholic priests protested against the system's abuse. The encomienda had too much power they were finding riches and not giving Spain anything. Spain got the right by Vatican to invade and conquest the New World.

Per my research, when Blasco Núñez Vela, the first viceroy of Peru, tried to enforce the New Laws, which provided for the gradual abolition of the encomienda, many of the encomenderos were unwilling to comply with them and revolted against him.
