Identify and describe some of the key thinkers and their conceptualizations of these topics. Explain, in this context, the meaning of Augustine’s statement: “If I am mistaken, I exist” especially in relation to Descartes’ “I think, therefore I am” observation. How would Bacon and Newton react to these two quotations? How do these changes in understanding of the role of chance, numbers, and the emergence of statistics inform the ongoing conversation about mind, body, and soul?
