The Thirty Years War was a religious battle between the Catholics and Protestants. It all began in Bohemia, present day Czech-Republic. Catholic king, Ferdinand, was the leader of Bohemia. In May of 1618, a few rebellious Protestant nobles threw two royal officials out a window in Prague. This act is known as the Defenestration of Prague which sparked a general revolt, turning a local conflict into a European War. The following year, Ferdinand was granted to be the Holy Roman Emperor. His support from Poland, Spain, and many other Catholic states helped him decrease the reformation by force bringing early victory over Bohemians and their Protestant allies. This event is important because it helped change and shape the overview of religion and nation-states in society.
