6.02 Factory Workers Now that you have learned about the women and children who worked in the factories, it is your turn to create a news story from a worker’s perspective. You will write a headline and an article about life in the factory to bring awareness to the conditions. Be honest in describing what you experience and what you see.

Step One: Review the evidence on page 3 of the lesson.

Step Two: Create your own news story. Include a headline. Be creative by adding a picture or create a quote from someone who may have worked with you. While this is fictional, it is based on history. Tip: use the sources in the lesson to gather information about who worked in the factories, what they did each day, where the factories were, when they were working (how many hours/days), how they were treated and conditions of the mills, and why the conditions were seen as less than desirable

Expectations to include in your Story:
Headline: catch your readers’ attention with a catchy title
Paragraph 1: “Hook” your readers with details to open the story. Explain the bad conditions of the factory.
Paragraph 2: Describe details of the daily life of working in a factory.
Paragraph 3: Describe the effects the factory has on girl’s/women’s lives.

Which of these is not a criticism of the concentric zone model? it does not accurately describe cities after the rise of suburban development. it only applies to cities that grew after the development of the automobile. it assumes that inner-city areas will always be repurposed instead of abandoned. it places too much importance on the traditional central business district.
