A Foundation Myth is something that happened in history but is misunderstood by many of the current generation, because of the how the previous generations talked about it. It occurs when a story is missing information, thus making the story less accurate. Sometimes the ignored parts are the most important. And as the story gets pasted down even farther, the story gets altered. Think of the game telephone. You whisper to the person next to you a phrase, and they tell the next person, and so on. Finally, the phrase goes to the last person, it is very different. Probably some people accidently altered the original and also some may have purposely changed the phrase. A foundational myth is like what each person says what is the original phrase, when it is not.  

the protestant reformation's started in 1517, disturbing the religious and political order in europe´s catholic countries. the outcome was the european wars of religion prosecuted in europe in the 16th, 17th and part of the 18th century. nonetheless, uprisings, territorial disputes, and great power conflicts were also causes of the wars.
