Why was the battle of midway a turning point in ww2?

The Battle of Midway is seen as a turning point of WWII because it was a terrible blow for the Japanese navy. There was an important American military base on this island that Japan wanted to capture. Japan wanted to get the American fleet to battle them so that Japan could outnumber and defeat them.
