5. What will be the focus of the American research effort on the International Space Station ?

Applied physical sciences research on the ISS will accomplish two major goals: (1) to provide a foundation for the development of systems and technologies enabling human and robotic space exploration and (2) to enhance understanding of phenomena enabled by the reduced-gravity environment on the ISS.
