How did the Progressive movement affect the election of 1912?

During the Progressive Era, purification of the government, modernization, a focus on family and education, prohibition, and women’s suffrage were the primary focuses of many Progressives who sought to rid the government of corruption, and muckraking became a particular type of journalism that exposed waste, corruption, and scandal on a national level. For example, two important events that resulted from this era were the establishments of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Amendments, the first of which outlawed the manufacturing, sale, or transport of alcohol, and the second of which enfranchised women with the right to vote. Despite their great progress in these areas, Progressives did little for civil rights or the plight of African Americans in the aftermath of Reconstruction. By the 1900s, the Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of many racist southern laws and ironically limited the freedoms of the very people they promised to elevate and protect.
