Geography in the colonies differed greatly along the east coast. The northern colonies were forced to have a more diverse economic source because they could not farm as well as the south. Contrastingly, the south institutionalized farming and based their societies around agriculture.

Reasons for European colonization differed greatly among European nations. The french and the dutch came here for mainly fur trade. Spanish explorers came for profit and to convert, as well as utilize native people as slaves. English colonists that came to New England mainly came for religious freedom (such as the puritans) and colonists that came to areas such as jamestown came for profit and agriculture.

answer: the time zones used to be whatever the local authority wanted them to be. one town might have 6am whenever the sun came up and another town had 6am 10 minutes later.
