How should a president be elected? Should it be elected through Electoral College or the popular vote?

This is an opinion question, so it should be answered with your thoughts instead of mine but here it is anyway:

I think that presidents should be elected through a popular vote from the people because the people would know what they want, while the Electoral College may not fully sympathize or empathize with the people.
