Their immune systems would be weak and so the society prevented them from visiting temples or interacting with other people who mingle with the outside world, during the period. Because, prayer was an integral part of their lives at that point.

But this was deeply misunderstood. Later generations interpreted menses as something impure. This was later taken advantage of by invaders and Religious colonization and spread the word out that it was Women Oppression - about a place where women are worshiped as Gods for their immense powers.
