Philip II became king of Macedonia, a kingdom of Ancient Greece, in 359 B. C.E. He was well-known for beginning a period of Macedonian dominance in Greece before he was killed in 336 B. C.E. After him, his son carried on his control of Greece, and was himself well-known for conquering the Persian Empire. A student of Aristotle, Philip II's son became one of the greatest military commanders in the history of the world.
