How did towns develop in the Maxwell Land Grant? Edit; answer -
He established the towns of Rayado and Cimarron. He sold 24,000 acres to John Dawson for $3,700. John Dawson was a successful farmer and rancher. Later, when John Dawson discovered coal, he sold the land that became the coal town of Dawson. When gold was discovered on the Maxwell grant and thousands of prospectors swarmed in, Maxwell decided to let them stay and create a town, which Maxwell named Elizabethtown, after his daughter.
