What effects did the growth of agricultural learning and technology have on early African civilization

The soil was so fertile and moist that farmers literally scattered wheat seed into the mud, and it grew, producing a surplus crop.  Remember: Surplus agricultural production is necessary for development of a civilization. Aside from its annual flood, the Nile was a calm river, easily navigated, at least near its Delta. When early humans began farming, they were able to produce enough food that they no longer had to migrate to their food source. This meant they could build permanent structures, and develop villages, towns, and eventually even cities. Closely connected to the rise of settled societies was an increase in population.
