In 1619, the first African slaves arrived in an English Colony. They arrived on board of a boat which landed at Old Point Comfort, close to the Jamestown settlement, in the Virginia Colony.

This was not the first time that African slaves were brought to North America. African slaves had already been sent to the St. Augustine settlement in Florida, but since this settlement was Spanish, this was the first time that African slaves were brought to an English colony.
