1.Laws are a necessary part of society because they keep us safe. We all know that it is important to obey the speed limit, stop at stop lights, and not steal. But are all laws really necessary?
2.In Austin, Texas, for example, it is illegal to carry wire cutters in your pocket. What purpose does this law serve? The answer is quite simple. In the days of the “Wild West,” cowboys cut barbed-wire fences of property owners in order to allow their cattle to pass through. To prevent such acts, a law was passed.
3.Why don’t cities remove laws like this one? First, it takes a lot of time and effort to remove laws. Public hearings and debates must be held to decide the law’s value. Second, no one really pays attention to these laws. They don’t cause problems, so there is no need to remove them. Finally, and maybe most important, many laws that seem silly are a part of history.
