Religious women and men in America felt that alcohol was a direct cause of America becoming a country with little morals. Members of the Temperance movement argued that alcohol lead to men making bad decisions, like using physical violence or neglecting their responsibilities to their families. This movement helped to spearhead the era of American history known as Prohibition. This 13 year period was supposed to help American society but actually had the opposite effect.
