It controlled the trade traffic of raw materials and gold since it linked the South with the Mediterranean markets in the north.Ghana became a point of trade exchange for valuable goods and commodities such as gold ivory, ostrich feathers, the cola nut , salt, and metal items with the most demanded of all commodities being the gold.
