Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City by a car bomb. 168 people were killed and more than 680 injured; 19 of the dead were children. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, supporters of the right-wing militia movement, were later convicted of the act.  

McVeigh said the motives for the deed were the authorities' strike on Ruby Ridge in 1992 and the siege in Waco in 1993 and to defend the freedom of every American citizen. The Oklahoma City bombing was carried out on the second anniversary of the Waco siege, which ended with the authorities attacking the ranch and most of the sect members, including many children, dying in an explosive fire.
