But within only a few years, the U.S. would throw all that asunder, paving the way for Puerto Rico’s nonvoting territory status today. Some say that Puerto Rico should become a fully independent republic because there will be economic chaos and its citizens will die of hunger given that the land has no natural resources to sustain its population. But I personally think that they should because if they were given a chance and had the money and resources they need then they could prosper just like everyone else.
