I agree with this statement. In the United States there were divided opinions on the war in which the North considered it a way for the South to escape the slave issue. In the south, the war was seen as a war of freedom. Due to this war, the balance between the north and the south was thus disturbed, as according to the Missouri Compromise of 1820, slavery was banned in states north of the 36th latitude, with the exception of Missouri. However, the new states that joined the US after the war had not signed the compromise, which meant that when the slave issue reappeared, a compromise could not be reached.  As a consequence, new problems between the states came up, paving the way for the Civil War ten years later.
