Why did the Vikings need to raid and pillage other settlements?

Their home in Scandinavia was mean't for farming, but their farmlands were getting colder, so they had to leave their homeland. They put together a large group of people including woman. They started to raid small lands to collect loot and leave.

They wanted to stay in one place this time, so they raided England  aprrox. in 793 A.D. to stay forever. England has rich luscious greens while Scandinavia was cold and empty.
