The Declaration of Sentiments focused specifically on the rights of women who "were citizens and should have had equal rights".

The Declaration of Sentiments, otherwise called the Declaration of Rights and Sentiments, was marked amid the Seneca Falls Convention, which occurred July 19– 20, 1848, in Seneca Falls, New York. Around three hundred individuals went to the gathering, driven by Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Martha C. Wright, and Mary Ann M'Clintock.  

One hundred individuals, including thirty-two men, marked the Declaration of Sentiments, composed for the most part by Stanton. Frederick Douglass, an acclaimed abolitionist who battled against servitude, was one of them.
