From the Roman times, the twelve tablets (laws written in bronze, put in public for everyone to see) were the most significant.

the first law: Forces someone to go to court when they are called upon. This is used today in the concept of Jury duty where you have to go become a juror for a trial.

Another law from the first tablet says that "everyone is treated equal" and during court trials, the idea of innocence until proven guilty was also present in roman times(Habeas Corpus). In our constitution, the 14th amendment guarantees that everyone is treated equal under the law.

From table 7, a property ownership law is present in both the 12 tablets and the US codes for property. On table 7, the Roman law states that a man might gather up fruit falling down from another mans farm. The US has similar laws when it comes to property ownership. Hope this helps!
