England was behind Spain and Portugal in colonization for a number of reasons, For one, England actually took very little interest in establishing an oversea colony. At the time, the imbalance of religious power caused England to be too occupied to focus on the New World, Due to King Henry VIII breaking with the Roman Catholic Church, the protestant reformation took place, thus leading o an increase in religious conflict. In addition, Spain attempted to invade England with the Spanish Armada--leading to a fail and ironically increasing England's morale instead
