In 1857, Indian soldiers were issued new rifles by the British. The cartridges of these rifles were greased with the fat of cows
and pigs. Indian Hindus, who could not eat beef, and Indian Muslims, who could not eat pork, were highly offended because
they were told to bite off the tips of the fat-greased cartridges before loading them into the rifles. When the Indian soldiers
refused to bite the cartridges, they were dismissed. This series of events sparked what uprising?
