Why is there no movement towards unification of the German states from 1350-1650

Because in the second half of the 19th century, the region corresponding to Germany was formed by a series of small kingdoms and duchies that had the same cultural root, but that were not politically unified. The two hegemonic forces in this region, then known as the German Confederation, were Prussia, led by the Hohenzollern dynasty, and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Since the beginning of the 19th century, there were nationalist ideals that advocated the unification of this region. These ideals gained strength from the liberal revolutions of 1848, which, in the case of Germany, led to a series of unification movements, under democratic and liberal ideals, but which nevertheless failed to secure the union of this territory in one Nation-state.
