The life for slaves during the period spanning 19th and 20th century can be summed up in these words- repression, racial blur, severe punishments, violation of basic rights, suppression of free thoughts and even movements, segregation and unique outburst in forms of critical religion, literature, belief and tradition.

Explanation:

The life of slaves during the 19th century revolved mostly around plantation farms. They were made to work in harshest of the environment with the frequent conflagration of basic rights. Severe punishment, racial discrimination and blurs, harassments were common and parcel of life.

They were employed for various sorts of the job from cleaning, house-keeping, planting and agri-labour. They were frequently subjected to emotional trauma, no defence in the court of law, slave patrols made their lives bad to worst.

However, these practises led to the origin of unique slave religious practises, beliefs and practises. The story of exodus led by Moses held a special reverence for them. These all led to the development of unique slave culture in the US.
