Lisbon was a very well known trade community and was also known for the Indian/Europe sea trade route. Trade and markets flourished with new access to Indian goods and Lisbon became stronger economically. Florence was known for being a center of trade for the medieval Europeans and finance making it on of the wealthiness cities. the crusades were taking place when the church had been trying to get back the holy land of Jerusalem.   (Florence, Lisbon, Rome, Wittenberg) that were connected to the major developments during the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Counterreformation, and the Age of Exploration.
