Southern Region of US 1820-1860 Internal Improvements

The economy of the south prospered between 1820 and 1860. Unlike the industrial North, however, the South remained overwhelmingly rural, and it`s economy became increasingly different from northern economy. There was little industry in the south because they were slave owners and the Northerners did not agree with owning slaves so they built factories.
