1) empire was overthrown (Wilhelm II was exiled), 2) republic established (Weimar Republik), 3) colonies lost, 4) Germany was alienated from the rest of Europe, 5) Germany had to pay very high reparations.

Explanation: psychologically speaking such a situation created spirit of revenge among Germans becase there was a sentiment of unjustice. Germany was forced to resigne to its great imperialist dreams: 1) colonies in overseas, 2) forming a "Great Germany", i.e. include to its national territory all the land where German was spoken: Austria, Lorraine, Alsace, Bohemia, Moravia and other places.
