Germany invaded Belgium in an attempt to capture France forcefully bypassing neutral countries, the German army initially asked for free passage through Belgium which the Belgians never yielded to; this was because they wanted to stand and maintain their place during the war which was a neutral status. Having done this, the German troops invaded Belgium.
