they pay no bills, if they were lucky enough they made an exchange for part of their crop and even when slaves couldn't pay somehow they were in debt with the landowners when it was a bad year same as the sharecroppers.

Sharecropping is when the owner of the land rents it to someone in exchange for part of their crop. And if there is a bad year and there is no crop, the owner doesn't take a hit on thier profits, and the sharecropper is in debt to the owner.

Sharecropping is when anyone lives and/or works on land that is not theirs and in return for their effort they pay no bills. Slaves pretty much did the same thing except for the fact that they were the property of the land owner, without the choice of weather they wanted to work or not. Sharecroppers could decide they didn't want to do it any more and leave, slaves couldn't. The difference between the two is freedom, sharecroppers where free people, slaves were not.
