Why did many american fear communist

i think the answer is simple, the definition of communism is, a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.  If it were me i would not want my belongings to just be taken away, because everything is publicly owned
