New France was located in Canada and the United States.  

It existed only for 230 years, from 1534 to 1763. This colony was conquered by the British during the French and Indian War. The inhabitants of this colony were the ancestors of today's Quebecers. Its capital was Quebec. The lands started in Canada and ended in Louisiana. It was the French navigator Jacques Cartier who discovered it.

The Indian tribes who lived on this territory before the arrival of the French were: Micmacs, Abenaki, Algonquin, Innu, and Huron. The French lived in peace with these Indians because King Louis XIV asked them to treat them with respect. They conflicted only with the Iroquois.

In the first years of the colony, there were no inhabitants in New France. The French just looked for natural resources, furs, and fish to bring them to Europe. It was only after 70 years that the first community started to settle there and found the city of Quebec in 1608. The life was pleasant in this colony because the colonists had much wealth, but the climate was very hard during winter.

the committees of correspondence were the american colonies’ means for maintaining communication lines in the years before the revolutionary war. in 1764, boston formed the earliest committee of correspondence to encourage opposition to britain’s stiffening of customs enforcement and prohibition of american paper money. the following year, new york formed a similar committee to keep the other colonies notified of its actions in resisting the stamp act. in 1773, the virginia house of burgesses proposed that each colonial legislature appoint a committee for intercolonial correspondence. the exchanges that followed built solidarity during the turbulent times and bring about the formation of the first continental congress in 1774.
