Friedrich Engels wrote the book “The Condition of the Working Class in England” in 1844. In this book, as the title says, he draws his experiences of the period he lived in Manchester. He describes how child labor horrified him, how the heavy industrialization caused environmental damage.

He also described the low wages the workers got, bad work conditions, poor health and high death rates related to work.

But some historians had criticized Engels, they used to say that he only pointed out the “bad side” of the industrial revolution and missed to point out the good side of it. They point out that before the industrial revolution people used to work mostly in farms, with poor living conditions depending on the weather to eat.
