However, King George III took this as an insult and even refused to read the content of their arguments. The olive Branch petition was a final attempt by colonists in respect to avoid ongoing war against Britain during the period of American Revolution. In this document, the Colonists had supported and pledged their loyalty towards the crown and declared their rights as British Citizens. Congress adopted this Petition in 1775. Once congress got this petition, It asked the king to Stop sending his troops in so that they could come up with a peaceful resolution on the issue o which the King Declined. He did so because he thought Congress to be Illegal and further declared that colonies were an open rebellion and is guilty of treason as they showed disloyalty to the King. The draft which was written by Jefferson in regards to olive branch was considered as inflammatory.The final draft which was considered to be much more toned down was written by delegate of Pennsylvania, John Dickenson who also known as the ‘Penman of the Revolution”.
