Most people worked in their farms, lived modestly but there were no poverty or inequity. There were skilled artisans, merchants, farmers, and few unskilled workers. Farms represented an important part of the economy.  No titles or nobility really existed in the colonies in America. There were equal opportunities for everybody with the exception of slaves.
