Europe wanted to colonize Africa during 1885-1910, the colonization of the entire continent lasted 25 years was a competition between European nations for the following factors:

Social factors: Industrialization brought to Europe social problems like unemployment, poverty, homelessness, and social displacement from rural areas, countries in Europe wanted to acquire new territories to send the surplus population they had that could not be absorbed in the new capital industry.

Political factors: African colonies added prestige, power and wealth European countries, the competition for the colonization of Africa was primarily between Britain, France and Germany, who were the strongest countries in the late 19th century.

Economical reasons:The main economical factor was that Africa was rich in  natural resources that European countries could trade and use in factories, they wanted exclusive access to this resources and in order to have exclusive access they needed political control in the area.
