Summarize some of the new technology that change life in the west

Some of the greatest technological advancements included tools that helped farming to become much easier such as mechanical reapers and steel plows. Another thing was the invention of the rainroad because this played a huge part in the westward expansion. It allowed for much faster travel of people and cargo.
Some other things throughout history that hapoened in the west were the invention of cars, radios, iceboxes, etc, but im not sure what time in history you need to know about.
