In his 28 April, 1870 letter to U.S senator Hon. Charles Sumner, Pixley states his reasons against Chinese immigration. He is simply afraid that the Chinese would outnumber the Americans in California. He argues that the Chinese come with no intention of staying, no intention of learning the American way of life.
