The commander of Spanish troops was Bernardo de Gálvez, Louisiana governor and military officer and troops were around 400 regular army troops and 400 militia. The British Army, under the overall command of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Dickson, was over 400 regular army troops and 150 militia. On September 21st, after three hours of battle, Dickson offered to surrender. In a brilliant move, de Gálvez included in the terms that the British surrender post and garrison at Baton Rouge but also Fort Panmure at Natchez to Spanish control.
