How did a new political party affect the challenges to slavery?

 The new party was the republican party that declared that it would not give in any more to the slave demands of the southern territory. The election of its candidate, Abraham Lincoln led to several states accelerating secession quest. Lincoln responded by declaring war on the seceding states otherwise called confederates and abolishing slavery.
