The answer is Acommodation.  The lens is flexible and elastic, the ciliary muscles which is attached to the lens, contract or release to change the lens  shape and curvature.  By  changing the curvature of the lens, one can focus  the eye on objects at different distances from it. This process is called  accommodation.
