Energy balance is the balance of the energy input with the energy output. if there is a deviation from this balance, obesity and underweight will result depending on the shift from balance whether left or right.

Walking home from school everyday instead of taking the bus increases the rate of metabolism as the cells of the muscles will require more amount of ATP to be pumped into them for effective functioning. Walking is a form of exercise and helps keep the body in shape. Energy is lost during the exercise and therefore the energy stores of the body may be depleted (glycogen or fat deposits) in order to balance the rate of energy input to output. Also, the energy curve is reduced after this activity and needs to be replenished by taking in water and food to consolidate the deficit after the exercise.

This form of exercise prevent overweight keeping the body weight in check.
