The things that you need to consider is the cost of the two and the benefits. One is going to be a one time cost and the other would be an ongoing cost. Depending upon what you purchase, you could be looking at thousands of dollars in at home equipment, with the possibility of it breaking at some point, that would also add maintenance costs. Not only that but you'd be on your own at home doing all the work outs, this could be both good and bad because it's at home so you would be comfortable but you have no fitness trainers and much less motivation. Which brings me to the gym membership, most gyms will allow you to meet with a fitness instructor that could help you work on the areas of your body that you need to work on and keep fit. Not only that but some gyms offer dietary plans and other things you probably won't be able to obtain at home, like a pool.
