Explain the meaning of the statement "think globally , act locally" , and give an example of being locally

If you think about it, think about everyone else but do what you can where you are. For example, throwing a water bottle on the ground, instead of throwing it in the recycling bin, is effecting the whole world in a way, but if you act locally and plant trees, and recycle water bottles and aluminum cans, you're thinking globally, but acting locally. Need anymore help let me know
