Cancer is a group of related diseases that occurs when abnormal cells in the body undergo rapid uncontrolled proliferation and spread into surrounding tissue. Cancer is grouped into five main types based on the type of cell they start in. They are (i) Carcinoma; cancer that affects the skin or in tissues that cover internal organs. (ii) Sarcoma; cancer that affects the connective or supportive tissues. (iii) Leukaemia; cancer that affects blood forming tissue such as the bone marrow. (iv) Lymphoma and myeloma; cancer that affects the cells of the immune system and (v) Central nervous system cancers.
