These are some of the foods in my pantry that have nutrient claims:

Diced tomatoes: “no salt added.” This is helpful because some people need to restrict the amount of sodium in their diet. This does not seem like an overhyped claim, but a helpful claim.

Frozen blueberries: “no sugar added.” This is helpful because people need to limit their daily intake of added sugars and focus on consuming foods with natural fruit sugar (fructose).  

Snacks that are “made with real fruit.” This claim is confusing for consumers because, if you check the ingredient list, chances are it contains added sugars and fruit juice concentrates, not whole fruits. Therefore, these snacks are high in added sugars and lack natural fruit sugar.
