Juan es un hombre de mediana edad que durante todo el tiempo que llevamos de confinamiento debido a la pandemia del Coronavirus ha negado a quedarse en casa. Ha menospreciado las advertencias de las autoridades sanitarias y no ha tomado ninguna medida profiláctica. Ha salido a pasear y correr, ha ido a ver a sus amigos y amigas y ha alargado tanto como quiso los paseos con su perro, vagando de plaza en plaza. Finalmente ha enfermado y tiene una neumonía. Se encuentra en estado grave en la UCI y necesita un respirador, pero el hospital no dispone de suficiente aparatos y hay bastante enfermos que lo necesitan.

La médica encargada de valorar y decidir a qué enfermos adjudican los respiraderos es la vecina de Juan y ha visto su comportamiento durante todo este tiempo de confinamiento. La médico debe decidir rápidamente si le pone el respirador a Juan, que ha sido el primer paciente a necesitarlo, o lo hace a los otros pacientes que también lo necesitan, pero que tienen una edad más avanzada.
